If you found yourself watching the Brewers and Pirates on TV Wednesday night and thinking -- "When does hockey season start?" -- well, let's just say it wasn't an accident.
Admirals president Jon Greenberg heard about our story on Brewers superfan Mark Simons, who watches games from a seat adjacent to the visitor's dugout at Miller Park and spends much of his night in direct sight of the TV camera that shoots right-handed batters.
Recognizing a good marketing opportunity, Greenberg hooked Simons up with an Admirals jersey, complete with the Brewers patch. (The Admirals wear the patch because owner Harris Turer is a part owner of the Brewers and his colleagues from the baseball side -- Brewers owner Mark Attanasio, assistant general manager Gord Ash and right-hander Ben Sheets -- are investors in the hockey club.
Simons wore the jersey to the game Wednesday night, then switched back to his traditional Brewers garb on Thursday. Greenberg also presented Simons with some tickets to an upcoming Admirals game.
While the Brewers are fighting to extend their season, the Admirals begin training camp next week and open their season Oct. 11 in San Antonio. The home opener is Oct. 18 at the Bradley Center.
